This of course was more popular in paper and pencil rpg's than online ones. That's usually why I spend most of my time on the Name of my character in the creation screen for any game I play. Because Names, to me, are a bit more important even though nobody will actually care what my name is in game, it matters only to me. So, I guess mine tend to sound more fantasy-like or whatever, because if I'm part of a story, I really wouldn't want to be referred to as scooby doo or something.
Well see, as i said my characters in the past have had more to their name. But i feel it is only proper for their 'first name' to be what you see hovering below/above them. I mean, okay you are stan the warrior. Maybe later on it is discovered that you are infact part of some great noble family with divine powers or something. Great. This shouldnt be advertised to the world.

But then this shows the difference between pen and paper sort of RPing and crpging. In a crpg people realy do see that name hovering above your head. The worlds are combined the goblin is real but so is the pizza you just ate for dinner. So you dont just 'pretend' that you dont know who the other persons name is. Its floating right there above your head.

And this is something that i have spent countless hours discussing and pondering on. And truley, after many scientific experements its been proven, with science that my way is best.

Exactly. Exactly exactly exactly.

Guild Wars IS NOT a proper roleplay environment. At all. It's not set up for it, it doesn't support it whatsoever.

Edit: Sidrakket, tack on Ninja too. Space vampire pirate ninja wizard. Then you'll be BEST.

I don't think I've seen even one name with a string of numbers or something like "XxemogirlxX".

You need to be more creative. I can come up with DOZENS of two-word names that I am quite fond of.
I can come up with many many names, from different cultural backgrounds. But I also remember an old belief: The name of a thing is that thing and carries the authority of that thing. Names are significant reperesentations of self-alter-ego and charcter concept.

What would have been more affective, and looked more correct, is if the name convention required two sections. One a full name, and the other a tag name. One of my characters was Sesquipedelian Mag. It would ahve ben appropriate for him to have a nick name for appearing in tall the conversation texts. I can see: Sesky, Quip, and Mag. There is no place to enter such an alternate name.

I'd like prepositions and articles in names to be in lower case. I would find that thrilling.

LMAO, Sidrakket, please tell me you're kidding. Please!

First and foremost, if you are a 'hardcore' role player, Guild Wars is not the game for you. Hate to say it, because I really do love RPGs, but this game just simply isn't high on that style of play. I do come from the pen-and-paper RPG stock of players, but I don't enjoy GW in that sense. GW is a timekiller, plain and simple.

That is not to say that you can't role play IN Guild Wars, I'm just trying to make clear that flashing credentials (if that's what you wanna call it) of RPG conquests while trying to make a point about GW is lost in the translation.

Regardless, on your point, two-name minimum serves 2 primary functions: 1) It allows players to be creative in naming their avatars, and think outside the box of standard internet handles; and 2) It makes it less likely that a name you create is used by someone else, unless your highly uncreative.

Allowing multi-word names but not requireing them would have solved that just as nicley=P

And no, i dont roleplay so to speak. I immerse myself. Most of my characters act exacly the same (though i do tend to naturaly pick up slightly different manorisms subconciously, but nothing terribly noticable). But i do get involved in the reality of the game world.

I dont want a place to roleplay, i just want a name that has meaning to me. Facilitation of roleplay is important in these sorts of games. If not we would not even have backstorys or quests, it would just be a merchant and a bunch of mobs to farm.

This is something that has helped me out in some situations of creating a name. I see what you're saying with multi-word names, and can see how that would be some what restrictive for what you want to do.

Aye, already been covered however, that while my characters sometimes have quite elaborate names, the 'proper' crpg thing to do is have only the first, common name, floating over their head.

Also, seventh sanctum, yeah. I use that a whole lot. I see lots of nifty names, but none that seem like names id use -_-

My initial character names from games come from Final Fantasy (and I have a tendancy to stick to these)

Hard -- Fighter Char
Whit -- White Mage
Blac -- Black Mage
John -- Last of 4 (my name)

If you want to delve further into the depths of my un-imaginativeness, you can request OTHER names that I use

When I went to create a character I was like "WTF, oh I need 2 names.. AWESOME, it's about time!"

While I suck at making names and have to REALLY work at it to get a name I like, I still personally want to pat on the backs the person who put this forward and Anet for implementing it.

Hrh, that is really cool! I have my own naming conventions that I usually stick to (came uo with a new one for Cantha), but I'm tempted to use that in the future.

I wish I had thought to do that. Instead, I have Damia Arcana - elementalist, Maya Argenault - mesmer, Laria Raven - necro, Maya Calandra - monk and Lyssa Argenault - ritualist. Soon to be laid to rest - Saint Jude Thaddeus, who lost his battle against the hopeless cause of being less cute than the new Canthan female monk models. Poor guy didn't stand a chance.

The OP deserves to be flamed.. maybe this topic might be an issue if this game was in ALPHA phase.. but it's now 1 year old, most people got over it, and I guess you could too.

I like my RPG chars with a surname, it's distinctive, even if they are called "John Smith" at least it's distinctively HIM not just another "John".

You can be like other people who runs around with "| John |", "X John X", I guess whenever I see one of those people.. I will think that they might be you. Those names are disgraceful.. even if it's "J O H N".

I have to agree that I would like one name options for some of my characters...being a long time D and D fan, not all characters deserve two names...maybe I want the generic stupid half orc warrior/barbarian with the name bob...more variety is always a good thing...

Give me one good reason why GW 'needs' two word names.

And why does the OP desere all this bs? He has a valid complaint even if it's old...grow up people....

ah, you can just feel the love going on in this thread.

Really now the two name system is fine, its promotes creative thinking and name creation.

When I first saw the rule, I'm quite happy thinking that there will no longer be any XdestructorX or lOWNu but apparently I was mistaken :P
